Premiata Ditta was in Milan (IT) >
Premiata Ditta is composed of Anna Stuart Tovini and Vincenzo Chiarandà, both of whom live and work in Milan, Italy. Premiata Ditta originated in 1984, born out of Italian research in dialogue with European and international parallels; the duo has delved into the questions of authorship, evoking the logic of production and profit with an eye to subvert it. The work of Premiata Ditta has always been dedicated to those practices that fall within the scope of public art with an aim to engage people in its creation. Premiata Ditta has been invited twice to the Venice Biennial, to the Rome Quadriennale and numerous international exhibitions, above all in France, Holland and Germany. In 1995 Premiata Ditta brought to life UnDo.Net, an Internet work of art which in twenty years of life has involved hundreds of artists and critics through the organization of a participative and independent model of creation. In recent years Premiata Ditta has given life to the Studi Festival project (today known as Walk-In Studio): a non-profit initiative that involves and coordinates dozens of artists in the creation of exhibitions and events within artists’ studios and significant public spaces in Milan. From 2015 the work of Premiata Ditta has developed by way of the creation of new productions and workshops. Recently the PD has realized diverse performed conferences one of which was associated with the authentic signature of the UnDo.Net at the Museo del 900 at Milan, while another was an articulated choral project culminating in the donation of an artwork called “You are here” to the MAMbo Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bologna. Premiata Ditta’s most recent project is “Profiles”, that has developed over a span of two years involving the inhabitants of the island of Graciosa (The Azores) in the realization of an exhibition and two books. Numerous Italian and foreign critics have written about Premiata Ditta, among whom are Marco Senaldi, Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Alessandra Pioselli, Nicolas Bourriaud (in his 1998 essay Esthetique relationnelle) and Clair Bishop in her 2012 book “Artificial Hells: Participatory Art and the Politics of Spectatorship”.
